The Duke of Gloucester

The Bar:

Welcome to Toronto's most authentic British Pub! The Duke of Gloucester offers a mixture of traditional English fare and international dishes. For nearly 30 years now the Duke has been home to many ex-pat regulars, some of which were there on the opening night, and still frequent. If you're looking for a real British pub, you have found it. Whether it's Premier Division football or just an authentic pub feel you're looking for, the Duke of Gloucester has it.

Sit on the heated patio or have a private party in our Snug room, or enjoy an evening out in our main lounge area with an excellent selection of beer or cocktails. The wooden tables and chairs, bench seating and British-built solid oak bar, as well as football scarves, shirts, and other memorabilia adorn the entire pub, and provide a flavour of back home.

Along with darts, pool, Golden Tee and a selection of popular board games behind the bar, we have a jukebox that features many famous UK bands, as well as a fine selection of modern music for your entertainment.

The Dart Area:

In keeping with our traditional English feel, our dedicated dart area is always open, and boasts one of, if not the only, raised oches in the city! For years the Duke has been known as one of the city's most popular venues for pub darts and has continually had a team or two in league play on Tuesday nights. You'll find darters of all skill levels and experience throwing at our boards, and might not have any trouble finding someone to throw against in an impromptu match. Blind draw doubles and single player tournament are held from time to time, as well as special dart events.

The Dart Action:

The Duke sponsors two teams from the Queen Street Dart League each year. These teams play every Tuesday and you can usually find someone to throw a few games with most any evening.

The Menu:

The Duke's menu includes not just delicious traditional pub food, but also New Cuisine items and specially selected international dishes as well. Catering to all tastes, there's something for everyone on our menu. We have daily chef specials as well as our famous The Great British Breakfast on weekends - a domestic pint with full English breakfast -available all day all weekend long as long as our kitchen is open and serving hour allow.

Daily Specials:

Mondays: All Day British Breakfast!
Tuesdays: Cheap Wings (the best in town)!
Wednesdays: Appetisers!
Thursdays: Sheppard's Pie!
Fridays: Cheap Wings!
Saturdays: All Day British Breakfast!
Sundays: Free Pool!

Public Transit:

Close to the heart of the Toronto Subway system, the Yonge/Bloor station, the Duke of Gloucester is one of the easiest pubs to get to in the city. Just walk 2-1/2 blocks south from Bloor on Yonge and look for our UK flags above the sidewalk next to the Panasonic Theatre.

Driving Directions

The pub is located directly on Yonge street, north of Wellesley Avenue and south of Bloor Street. Landmarks include the Panasonic Theatre (located right next door) and the House of Lords hairstyling studio just south, located at the corner of Isabella and Yonge.

If you are driving, you can circle the area as there are a few "Green P" parking lots. Metered street parking is available, although open spots vary depending on the time and day that you are looking. Both options max-out at about $6.00 so it is reasonably priced. Don't let the thought of driving downtown fool you!

If you plan to take public transit, you can take the subway to Yonge and Bloor station and take the 5 minute walk south on Yonge. If you are more south, you can get off at Wellesley station and walk north on Yonge.

Parking is plentiful with metered street spots available on several nearby sidestreets, as well as several municipal parking lots only blocks away. If you're taking a cab, many cab drivers will know how to get to us just by our name alone. Cab service home is easy as taxis are available outside our pub at all times of day.
