Please Note: Changes Have Been Made To The King Of The Hill Tournament

Due to the overwhelming response we've had to what was initially going to be an informal event, we've made some changes to the formatting and overall rules that we think will help to ensure maximum enjoyability for all involved. Our main goal is to provide people with a transparent, structured and time-focused event and, if anyone is uncomfortable with any of the changes noted below, please contact us and we'll return your entry fee without prejudice. The major changes are as follows:

1. Playoffs Have Changed From Double Elim To Single Elim
2. 3 Players Will Now Make It Out Of Each Group + 1 Wildcard
Waiting List People Must Sign In No Later Than 12:15

All people on the waiting list must register with the organisers no later than 12:15. If you have not signed in by that time, your name will be removed and the next person on the list will be given a spot should one become available.

Registered and Paid Players Must Sign In No Later Than 12:45

All paid players must register with the organisers no later than 12:45. Failure to register by this time will result in your spot being given away and no refunds of fees will be offered.

Announcements & Instructions

Final announcements from the organisers will be made at 12:45.

3 Players Will Now Advance From Each Group

3 players from each group will now advance, plus one wildcard for a total of 16 players for the playoff round. With a minimum of 6 dartboards available (and more likely 8), this should not pose a problem with play times.

Play Times & Expected Etiquette

Start time will be 1:00, sharp.

Players who are not playing at any given time are expected to chalk games within their own groups.

A 5 minute disqualification rule will be in effect, meaning that any player who is 5 minutes (or more) late for any leg will lose the remaining legs in that set. This is important to ensure that the games are ended as quickly as possible and it will be enforced.

Groups will be directed by the organisers as needed to use as many available boards as possible.

Format:
  • 501 SIDO.
  • All 3 legs of each set must be played.
  • Each leg won counts as 1 point.
  • Opponents will flip a coin and the winner of the coin-toss will decide who will bull first.
  • Winner of the throw will start the odd legs (1, 3, 5, 7, etc.). Loser of the throw will start even legs.
  • If legs are tied in the playoff rounds, both players will throw for the bull to decide who will begin the deciding leg.
  • Darts in the double-bull may be removed at the request of the opposing player.

Tiebreaking Format

Ties within groups will be decided by "Head-to-Head" results between the tied players.

Ties across groups will play one game of 701 for the 'Wildcard' position.

Scheduled Break

An official "break" will be offered from 2:30 to 2:45. Please try to play until then so that the tournament can run as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Round Robin Continues

Round-Robin portion will be completed by 4:30.

Scheduled Break:

30 minutes will be taken between 4:30 and 5:00 for everyone to have a break, enjoy complimentary finger-foods, etc.

Playoffs

Playoffs will take place between 5:00 and 8:00.
  • Single elimination
  • First round - best of 5 legs
  • Second round - best of 7 legs
  • Third round - best of 9 legs
  • Fourth round - best of 11 legs

Playoff Brackets
Example: In the first bracket, the 1st place finisher of Group 1 will play the Wildcard. For the second bracket, the second place finisher of Group 1 will play the second place finisher of Group 2 and so on. This was calculated by following a very simple method and no consideration was given to group configurations or possible outcomes.

Awards Presentation

The winner's trophy and other prizes will be awarded from 8:00 to 8:30.

After The Tournament

As the premises will have been booked for the entire day, everyone in attendance is welcome to stay and participate in an informal blind draw, enjoy the patio, mingle, etc.

Tournament Results

All results from the tournament will be posted on the Torontodarts.com website the following day.
